Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. She created Feminist Frequency, a web site with video content and blogs analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the founder and director-executive of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women's roles in popular culture narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the primary focus of her work. But, she also wants to highlight issues such as the targeting and bullying of women on the internet. Sarkeesian graduated with a master's degree in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO, TEDxWomen and United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a child she was captivated by the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist theories. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched the Feminist Frequency Website. The woman with ambitions to start a web-based series on gender representation in video games and found herself in the middle of a cyber-bullying campaign. This attack didn't stop her, however it did strengthen her resolve as a feminist critic of media. To honor the numerous contribution she's made to feministism, she's an award winner.
